What is a High-Security Bolt Seal?

A bolt seal is a heavy-duty, tamper-evident security mechanism designed to lock shipping containers and truck trailers. It consists of a high-strength metal pin and a locking cylinder. Once snapped together, the seal provides a permanent lock that can only be removed with specialized bolt cutters.

Are these seals ISO 17712:2013 compliant?

Yes. All American Seals bolt products are certified as High Security Seals under the ISO 17712:2013 standards, making them fully compliant for international shipping and C-TPAT regulations.

If you require the same ISO certification in a different format, we also carry Joeguard Cable Seals for flexible applications and Seaforce Bar Seals for maximum-perimeter security.

How do I install and remove a bolt seal?

Installation: Insert the pin through the hasp of the container door and push it firmly into the locking cylinder until you hear a “click.” Always pull back to verify a secure lock.

Removal: High-security seals are designed to resist manual tampering. You will need 18″ to 24″ bolt cutters to snap the metal pin for cargo access.

Can I customize my bolt seals?

Absolutely. To enhance your logistics tracking and prevent seal-switching, we offer laser-engraved company names and other alphanumeric codes.
